 In my research presentation this week, I discussed the film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as an inspiration for a fashion-based creative project that I am embarking on. The purpose of my research was to look at how technology, narrative, and visual elements work together to convey character growth and emotion, rather than just relying on visual effects. Using Freytag's Pyramid to analyze the narrative structure of the film allowed me to determine if it was successful in establishing a beginning, middle and end that support Miles Morales' development as he grows into his identity. Miles' character develops through his journey through self-doubt, failure, mentorship, and self-belief. Understanding how the pacing and reinforcement of the emotional elements are built into the film also assisted me in understanding how Miles develops as a character emotionally over the course of the movie.
